The Magazine photograph Shutters Its Doors

We got a sad email a couple of weeks ago, letting us know that the long-time photograph magazine was shutting down, another casualty of our economy. The publication started in 1988 as a printed one, and, like a lot of print media, moved to the Internet to survive—at least for a while. We used to advertise in the small, but handy printed edition.

"It is with heavy hearts and tremendous gratitude for all of your support that we are announcing that photograph magazine is closing. The magazine has been a labor of love for our small and dedicated staff, but we were not able to fully recover from the challenges presented by the COVID pandemic. photograph was founded in 1988 by Bill Mindlin, who saw the need for a listings guide to photography shows across New York City. That mimeographed list evolved over the years into a beautifully designed and printed magazine – as well as an elegant website and digital publication and a weekly newsletter – that has covered countless talented photographers, committed curators, dealers, book publishers, and exhibitions and that has published the work of many, many gifted and knowledgeable writers.

It has been our honor and pleasure to produce photograph magazine and to play an integral part in the vibrant photography community."

With thanks,

Anthony Beale, Publisher

Jean Dykstra, Editor

Fabio Cutró, Designer

Rest in peace "photography" magazine, and thanks for the support of this field that we all love.
