J. B. Frenet, a painter of the Lyon school and a pupil of Ingres, became involved with photography in the early 1850s. Following the auction of his studio photographs and negatives in 2000, the works of this intimate photographer entered the collections of the Musée d'Orsay in Paris and the Albertina in Vienna, as well as the Wilson Centre of Photography.
