About This Image

The Messiaen Studio consisted of father, son and grandson. Jules Charles Messiaen was born and died in Tournai, Belgium (1869-1956). He was active photographically 1890s to 1940s. He is mentioned in the Histoire de la Photographie en Belgique, published by the Musée de la Photographie/Charleroi. He worked with his son Edmond (1896-1955). They were both later assisted by Edmond's son Jules Benoit Edmond (1922-1990). These images were made at the Musée de Folklore of Tournai, probably by Edmond.
