A touchingly human portrait. Stamped and labeled with photographer's infomation on verso. Titled and dated in unknown hand, possibly the photographer's.Marian (sometimes known as Marianne) Reismann was born December 23, 1911 in Szombathely, Hungary.Marian Reismann finished her studies at the Staatslehranstalt für Lichtbildwesen (State School for Photography) in 1931, then worked briefly with her elder brother, Janos Reismann, in Berlin before returning home to open a studio in Budapest. The German occupation closed her studio, since she was Jewish. She managed to escape from the Nazi system of "Yellow Star" housing, and was eventually freed by the Russians. A Russian gave her a camera when she told him she was a photographer.She exhibited at the influential "International Photographic Exhibition, Budapest: Centenary of Daguerre, 1837-1937". She was active primarily from the 1930s-1950s.She is mentioned in the book by Kincses, Karoly, "Photographs Made in Hungary".She died in Budapest on September 28, 1991.See: Franka Berndt Bastille, Fragments d'un Discours sous Influences, Hongrie 1925-1955, Novembre-Decembre 1990, p.3.
