About This Image

Born on March 22, 1797 in Paris, Deflubé (sometimes named "de Flube") was a photographer and an artist, who owned a "bathing establishment" in Pierrefond dans l'Oise. In 1845, several hot springs were discovered on Deflube's property. He then tried to build an industry around these hot springs, including thermal health baths. In 1878 Deflubé sold the thermal baths to Prince Radziwill. Pierrefonds was then expanded by adding a hotel and casino. During the next 27 years, the elite of the Parisian society enjoyed its facilities. Deflubé had an early interest in photography and produced full-plate daguerreotypes and albumen prints, which were found at a family apartment in Paris a few years ago. He was a member of the SFP in 1873 and had some landscape prints listed in the Society's bulletin of that same year. He died on June 30, 1884 in Pierrefond, France.
