About This Image

This is one of several versions of the spectacular train wreck at the Paris Montparnasse station, which had an engine crash through from the second floor and fall to the first floor in October 22, 1895. This photo is mounted with another smaller version and give full details on the paper (and even the negative) the print was made from and the sizes that were available from the photographer. It was obviously used by the photographer to sell prints of this image. His stamp appears in red ink. For variants, see: Frizot, Histoire de Voir:Le Medium des Temps Modernes (1880-1939), pp.52-53 (close variant); Histoire de la Photographie Francaise des Origines a 1920, n.p; Deedes-Vincke, Paris, the City and Its Photographers, p.62. This wreck was one of the most recognizable images from the turn of the century.

Shipping and insurance costs will be added to the price and must be paid for by the buyer. Pennsylvania buyers must pay appropriate local sales tax. International clients are responsible for their VAT and other custom's oriented charges.
