The photograph is signed on the verso in pencil. James L. Dillon and Company was one of the oldest photography studios in Philadelphia--well over 100 years old. James L. Dillon's son Theodore entered the business in the mid-1920s and later took over the company after his father died in the 1930s. Eisenman, a graduate of Antonelli's School of Photography, began an apprenticeship with Theodore Dillon in 1945. Upon Dillon's retirement in 1968, Eisenman took over the commercial studio.
