Red toned print with "Red Chalk" inscribed on verso. Francis Alfred Bolton was active from about 1895-1910, and the prints date from that period. They represent his working prints and are probably all that remain of his work apart from a few prints in the Royal Photographic Society collection. He is mentioned in Margaret Harker's book on the Linked Ring and was a member of the Linked Ring and was a fellow of the Royal Photographic Society. Several of his images were published in The Amateur Photographer & Photographic News, including several cover photographs. Provenance: family archive at auction.
