Crease in print visible in raking light.Dr. Paul Wolff was born in 1887 in Mulhouse, which was then in Germany (later it became a part of France), and studied medicine and became a physician; however, following WWI he was restricted from practicing and decided to follow his earlier interest in photography.Though he did use large format cameras, he was also an early proponent of the small 35 mm format and the Leica camera.Much of what he photographed was street photography, but he also did portraits, landscapes and still lifes.In 1924 he co-founded the successful firm Wolff & Tritchler with his partner Alfred Tritchler. He published numerous books and died in 1951 in Frankfurt.
