About This Image

On a Carlo Ponti mount with printed title and information in French on verso of the mount. Provenance: old collection of J. Harrison, Jr. purchased in 1861.Alessandro Leopardi (sometimes called Leopardo) (working by 1480s – 1522/23) was a Venetian sculptor, bronze founder and architect. In 1505 he designed and cast the bronze bases, decorated in high relief, for the three great mast-like flagpoles in the Piazza San Marco, one of which is pictured here. Each base is different and this one in the centre has on a medallion a profile of the doge, Leonardo Loredan.
