Lucien Clergue was made a member of the French Academy des Beaux Arts on October 10th. Clergue became the first photographer of the academy--just 168 years after François Arago announced the birth of photography at this same venue.

Clergue has a major retrospective of over 200 prints currently at the Kunsthaus Museum in Vienna until Feb. 17th and a smaller version at Galerie Patrice Trigano, 4 Bis, Rue des Beaux-Arts (how appropriate!), in Paris until Nov. 24. De la Martinière has also just published Clergue's first French monograph, which includes over 300 photographs by this master photographer, who is considered by many to be France's most important living photographer.
