About This ImageSigned and titled "Les remparts a Avignon" by photographer in the negative. "Avignon: les Remparts" is written in ink on recto of mount. This fine, rich purple print shows the ramparts outside the walled medieval city of Avignon during the 1856 flood. The mirror-like surface of the water and the sky has been enhanced by hand. In 1858 the government reminded Baldus that it owned the flood pictures. He reassigned the numbers to his New Louvre series, making this print a rare exception.
