Born in 1901 in Forli, Italy, Stephani was an important Italian modernist and neorealist. He was a photojournalist, who was active from the 1930s-1960s, and exhibited in the salons and was published in most of the important photography journals of the day, including the American Annual of Photography, Popular Photography and Luci ed Ombre. He worked primarily with a Leica and was one of the first to use this camera in Italy.
